PINCH and a punch on the first of the month, that is if you can feel your fingers in chilly weather! As much as I love the warmer weather I do love piling on the layers and snuggling under a blanket with a good book.

I can’t wait for Waterstones to arrive in Wokingham, it will be a real bonus for the town and they attract fabulous authors and put on great events so it’s a win win!

I used to spend ages in Bates the Booksellers when I was commuting and always had a book on the go and a TBR pile!

My children inherited my love of books and would head to Bookends and Chapter One when they were in Wokingham, and latterly Woodley.

On my reading pile at the moment is The Lingering by S HI Holliday which is published on 15 November, The Lion Tamer Who Lost by Louise Beech, Mostyn Thomas and The

Big Rave by Richard Williams and The Best Possible You by Hannah Richards.

The Christmas Fairs have started and this week is Spirit of Christmas at Olympia which is on until Sunday 4 November, 825 stands, with plenty of places to eat inside and it really is a cracking event.

Other fairs and events that a number of friends are exhibiting at are:

Trunkwell House Christmas Fair, 3rd to 4th November

The Wellchild Fair, 5th to 7th November, Daylesford

Country Living Fair, 7th to 11th November, Business Design Centre, London

Mary Howard’s Christmas Fair 13th to 16th November at Cotswold Airport

Clems Fairs, 16th to 17th, 23rd to 24th November, Clementines Shop, Tisbury

Country Homes & Interiors Christmas, 22nd to 25th November, Stonor Park, Henley

Woodstock Christmas

Market, 23rd to 24th November, Woodstock

The Christmas Fair, 24th to 25th November, Chelsea Physic Garden

A great resource for advertising events and attracting stallholders is Stallfinder, well worth taking a look at their website.

MY grandmother always had a drawer full of what she called ‘just in case gifts’ which were normally scented drawer liners, soap, notelets and lavender bags, it smelt nice!

I often send gift vouchers to my younger family for them to buy something they really like but I do tend to spend time choosing the right gift, wrapping it up in brown paper and tied up with string.

Gifts that have been popular this year are Forage Somerset slippers and alphabet necklace, personalised Bowl Overs, Giftpop Boutique 3 in 1 handbag and animal print belt, 2 Little Boys stationery (always tempted to keep it myself), Andrew Flint Designs mats, coasters and trivets, personalised baubles and gifts from Love Happy Apple, books – yes books are always a good gift and I do often get a signed copy to make it extra special and, of course, the foodie gifts such as personalised label Wiltshire Liqueur, Candied Jalapeños from The Preservation Society, cheese – there are lots of businesses doing mail order cheese.

I use The Welsh Cheese Company (I’m rather partial to Perl Las and Perl Wen), I source the cheese and pop it on a personalised board from Hunter Gatherer.

HAVING said I don’t watch much telly I seem to have watched rather a lot recently!

Dark Heart began on ITV yesterday following a pilot in 2016, episode 2 is on tonight, then for the rest of the run it’s on Wednesday and Thursday (which I like as you don’t have long to wait!).

Killing Eve was superb, admittedly a bit gruesome but incredibly funny in parts and the ending … well that just leaves it open for Series 2.

Informer was also good, I really had to concentrate but was much more enjoyable than Bodyguard.

The Cry was frustratingly hard to follow in Episode 1 but after I had half heartedly watched that episode 3 times it fell into place, wow what an ending to Episode 3!

I watched the last episode with Granny Valley and it felt very much like being on Gogglebox.

Delighted to report that Keeping Faith Series 2 is currently being filmed and there’s talk of Hidden Series 2. Yippee, hurrah!

Having been gripped by The Missing and left in tears at the end of the last series I am waiting patiently for the spin off “Baptiste” to grace our screens.
