CEO seemed to be doing a good job

-

I was interested to read your article about the interim CEO of Wokingham Borough, Manjeet Gill, leaving the council rather abruptly. It’s a shame; she seemed to be doing a good job.

For some strange reason Cllr Jorgenson forgot to thank the Interim CEO for her hard work in trying to steady the Council after the loss of a number of senior officers during the last year.

Instead the Conservative Deputy Leader of Wokingham Council made some wild claims.

One was, the Conservatives locally have “delivered” some of the best schools in the country.

With so many schools in the borough now Academies, particularly secondary schools, the influence of the council has been very much reduced in recent years, although the Council does still have involvement with most of our Primary Schools.

It’s therefore a bit rich for Cllr Jorgenson to claim the Conservatives have “delivered” these good results.

Wouldn’t it have been better to recognise that the hard working underpaid teachers, staff, governing bodies, Head teachers AND the pupils have achieved these results?

Which are even more impressive when you consider the massive cuts in budgets from the Conservative government which is putting teaching jobs at risk? Perhaps Cllr Jorgenson should apologise for her ill-judged remarks. Tahir Maher, Maiden Erlegh Liberal Democrats
