Sumas enjoy connect four

Penn and Tylers Green 1 Wokingham and Emmbrook 3

SUMAS made it four wins on the spin by heaping more misery on out-of-form Penn and Tylers. The Spratleys Meadow side are perennial challengers at this level but have struggled in recent weeks, conceding 22 goals in their four games going into the weekend. And they slipped to another loss going down 3-1 to Wokingham with Jake White (2)

and Ellis Day on target.

Dan Bateman named an

unchanged 11 from the team which impressively beat Reading City the previous week but new signing Harry Oakley was included on the bench for the first time. And the Sumas started well with captain Will Day twice denied. But from the resulting corner the visitors got their noses in front with Ellis Day rising to notch his second goal in as many games. Penn responded instantly with a fine strike from Rashid Hamid and almost took the lead, only for goalkeeper Sean Woodward to make a flying save. Wokingham retook the lead before the break after White latched onto a cross to head home.

Elliott Rushforth went close after the restart while White was thwarted by the goalkeeper.

Woodward was also called into action at the other end before the game was put to bed when White slammed in a freekick and while he missed a late chance to complete a hat-trick, his two goals were enough to clinch all three points.

Sumas are up to sixth in the table and go to Holyport in the Subsidiary Cup on Thursday night (7.45pm).

Day (c); Rushforth (Robson), N. Bateman, Broadhurst (Clark); E. Day, White. Subs not used: D. Bateman, Eggleston, Oakley.
