The Greatest Holiday Club at FBC

- By INDIA PLUVES

KIDS all over Wokingham are buzzing with excitement after this year’s holiday club at the FBC centre.

With the Disney movie The Greatest Showman taking the world by storm, the FBC deemed its annual holiday club as a celebration of all things circus.

Children from school years reception to year six attended the holiday club this half term and, as of October 25, the Baptist church and community centre was packed to the brim with music, craft, dances, songs and, best of all, the legendary dunk tank.

Every day, the youngsters selected three helpers and one leader to get dunked on stage under a bucket filled with icy water – no wonder the event rallies up hundreds every year.

In addition to all the excitement on stage, the church hired an inflatable helter-skelter and obstacle course to accompany their already much-loved bouncy castles. The different age groups rotated around the separate activities through the day, leaving lunchtime as half-an-hour to relax together and watch a movie.

The church service on the Sunday after half-term revolved around the holiday club – revealing the highlights. Parents had the chance to compete for tickets to Chessington World of Adventures Resort for their entire family and a voucher for Chef Peking – dunking the loser in the process.

Each child received the opportunity to spend three days having a great time with their friends, but also learning someone new along the way. The themes of being content, brave, kind and following your dreams were preached daily by the volunteers.

Furthermore, throughout the week, a family who volunteered at the church for years were acknowledged and celebrated after they announced they would be moving away.

The experience was astounding for all and will certainly never be forgotten.
