MYSTERY DEATH OF FORMER BEES STAR

FORMER Bracknell Bees star David Gaborcik has been found dead in France.

The Slovakian defenceman, aged just 25, was named Bees player of the season after his impressive solo campaign at The Hive in 2016/17.

Gaborcik then moved on to French club Cosaires Dunkerque, where he stayed until his tragic death this week.

de-France, Gaborcik was found at the foot of tall building in the city centre at around 7pm on Tuesday evening before a car containing some of his personal items was discovered in a canal nearby.

An investigat­ion is ongoing to establish the circumstan­ces surroundin­g his death.

A statement from his club read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of David Gaborcik, player of the Division 1 team at H.G.D. (Dunkerque).

“The president, the entire board of directors, the staff and the players join the family of David in this painful ordeal.”

Bracknell Bees also released a statement to pass on their condolence­s while current Bees forward Josh Smith was one of the first to take to social media in response.

“Just seen the news about former team-mate and more importantl­y friend David Gaborcik,” he tweeted.

“Absolutely heartbroke­n. (He) was a genuinely great guy and will be very missed by everyone who knew him. #RIP.”
