Twyford plans a festive feast of fun

TWYFORD turns into Tinsel Town next weekend as the month long Christmas celebrations get underway. The fun starts on Sunday, December 2 when the lights are switched on at Bell Corner by Lady Elizabeth Godsal.

This year a second tree will be in place at Jubilee Corner and later in December more than 70 trees will decorate St Mary's Church.

The popular Christmas street fayre takes place on Friday, December 7, while the Living Advent Calendar sees a different event taking place every day.

"This year's busy programme is another example of the community, businesses, volunteers, churches, charities and schools organising wonderful events to attend during December and the Christmas period," said Rob Yeadon, Twyford Together Chairman.

"We have the 2018 Living Advent Calendar which provides something for everyone, every day up until Christmas.

“These events are organised by local businesses and community groups. So please support them by going to as many events as you can.

“Highlights of our Christmas Together programme include the switching on of the Christmas Lights.

"The Christmas Street Fayre returns on Friday 7th December, with many stalls offering everything from Christmas gifts to mulled wine and even a chance to pet reindeers!

Committee member, Stephen Conway, added that Christmas Fayre would be an evening of "fun and festivity."

London Road will be full of stalls selling a variety of goods and raising money for local good causes. There will also be street entertainers and musicians – and of course a visit from Father Christmas himself.

"We have been putting on the fayre for 17 years now. I’ve been involved from the beginning but I still get a thrill to see so many friends and neighbours in the village centre at the same time.

Attendance figures are difficult to gauge, as there is no entrance fee, but we reckon about 2,000 people come down to the village centre at some point in the evening."

Another popular event is Santa to a Senior.

For the sixth year in succession, Twyford Together, Home Instead Senior Care, Age Concern, Time Finders and the David Brownlow Charitable Foundation will be hosting nearly 150 seniors from the Twyford area at a Christmas Tea Party held at Colleton School on Saturday, December 1 – the first event in the Living Advent Calendar.

Entertainment is being provided and traditional Christmas carols will be sung, with the help of the school choristers as well as the guests themselves.
