Sophia Smallbone (4) gives Santa a cuddle at Dobbies Grovelands on Sunday. The festive visitor popped in from his North Pole workshop to check on progress for his grotto which opens this weekend.

A SPECIAL guest visited Dobbies Grovelands in Shinfield on Sunday – and youngsters were very pleased to see him.

It was none other than Father Christmas, taking a break from preparing toys ready for December 25.

Youngsters were given a special letter they could fill out and return, giving Santa some clues as to what to leave in stockings on Christmas Eve.

If the letters are posted in a special postbox in the Hyde End Lane garden centre then Santa promises to reply within seven days.

They could also meet Dobbie the Reindeer and have their face painted, in exchange for a donation to Teenage Cancer Trust.

Santa’s grotto will open from this weekend until Thursday, December 20, with many dates already sold out.

And it’s not only children who can enjoy festive treats at Dobbies. On Thursday, November 29, there will be a special ladies night, offering pamper and beauty sessions, festive make-up ideas and a chance to try out some festive party food.

Entry is £1, with proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
