Easthampstead Rotary
LAST Saturday, local volunteers met together in Bracknell’s Lily Hill Park to plant dozens of native trees - oak, hornbeam and wild cherry saplings supplied by The Woodland Trust.
The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Easthampstead, under the expert guidance of Bracknell Forest’s senior park ranger, Kath Moss and her team, and supported by volunteers from Garth Hill College, Holly Spring Junior School, 2nd Easthampstead Scouts and 1st Warfield Guides, together with family and friends.
Thanking the volunteers, Bruce
Irvine of Easthampstead Rotary’s Environment Group, commented: “Today is a great example of our community working together to enhance the local environment, and it’s another step towards meeting the Rotary challenge to plant one tree for every Rotarian in the world today. That’s over a million trees!”
Almost a hundred saplings have now been planted in local parks this year, following a spring planting in Savernake Park.
Park ranger Kath added “You are helping create and preserve beautiful woodlands for future generations to enjoy.”
Bruce commented “It does seems fitting, at a time when we are remembering the destruction of war with the Centenary of the end to World War I, to be co-operating on a community project to care for and improve our environment not only for ourselves but for our children and their children to enjoy.”
