Having Roman back was a big boost

ANOTHER hard-fought, edge of the seat hockey match last weekend in the Hive. With just one fixture, we wanted to carry on momentum and not lose points to Swindon, the current league leaders. A win in overtime – our first of the season – was welldeserved.
Vanya Antonov was not available for the game. In addition to his hockey, he has a heavy academic commitment.
We are always happy to support a young player building a future for himself.
It also gives other members of the squad the opportunity to step up and take more responsibility on such occasions.
We were pleased to welcome Roman Malinik back on the ice.
He had received a penalty a few weeks previously.
It took some time for that to be reviewed and changed, during which he was unable to ice for us.
With a few seconds of overtime left, he carried the puck up the ice and set up the winning goal. That was a great way to draw a line under an unfortunate episode.
It has not been easy having to sit out a few games when you should have been to be on the ice playing for your team.
This weekend we have a local derby in Basingstoke on Saturday and then travel up to Peterborough on Sunday.
