Wokingham West Forest Townswomen’s Guild

Wokingham West Forest Townswomen’s Guild recently met for their November meeting which was well attended and members were treated to a talk on “The Incredible World of the Honey Bee”.

This was delivered by Steve Moll who showed amazing photos of the bees at work within the hives and their means of communication with each other.

He also explained how he and his wife had

become involved in bee keeping and now they have over a hundred spread in different areas where the bees gather different flavours of nectar from the wild flowers.

Jennie Reeves, the outings organiser, was thanked for arranging the visit to Kelmscott House which is situated in beautiful Oxfordshire countryside. This is a picturesque welcoming house which was clearly loved by the artist whose renowned fabric designs are on view throughout.

Prior to wandering about the property we enjoyed a tasty lunch and were given an in depth talk yesterday one of the guides about the life of William Morris.

In addition to this visit, some members had attended Wokingham Theatre and enjoyed their latest excellent production of

Sense and Sensibility.

Other activities included a pub lunch, a coffee morning and games of bridge and scrabble. We also met for social studies, a needles and natter morning and the book club had read and discussed the works of Agatha Christie..

A few members attended the Wokingham Evening Guild to hear a talk titled “Welcome to my World”. This was given by William French, a retired butler who served the Queen and her family and worked on the royal yacht for five years.

We are now looking forward to the National Carol concert in Guildford and the Federation Carol concert in Reading. Visits to Wokingham Theatre and Sonning Mill have also been arranged.

We are a friendly group and meet in the evening at Emmbrook Village Hall on the third Monday of every month at 7.15pm. New members are welcome. Liz Shilham, chairman
