Rams power past Brum
Birmingham and Solihull 0 Rams 53
RELENTLESS Rams stormed to their biggest victory of the season with a whitewash win in Birmingham.
Torrential rain and freezing conditions greeted Seb Reynolds’ table-toppers, but they made light of task in hand to win 53-0 with Jamar Richardson, Ben Henderson, Conor Corrigan, Ross Crame, Greg Illingworth and Robbie Stapley all scoring tries.
“The performance of the entire squad was very good,” said head coach Reynolds.
“The conditions proved a very difficult task against a Birmingham side coming off the back of an impressive away win against
Barnes the previous week.
“We knew we had to secure a solid platform as their scrum and line-out is very good.
“The pack was outstanding at the set and never took a backward step. In inclement weather sometimes the backs can be found trying to stay warm but they were excellent, full of energy and enthusiasm and always in the game.”
The hosts came out fired up but Rams soon got into their stride and onto the front foot, taking the lead against the run of play inside 10 minutes as Corrigan and Richardson combined with the latter kicking the ball over the line and chasing it down to score.
Henderson, the league’s joint top try-scorer, added to his tally following a penalty line-out and the dominance continued after the break.
Seers kicked to Corrigan to score in the corner which led to a flurry of tries with Crame, Illingworth and the fit again Stapley all adding to the score as Rams clinched their 11th successive victory.
“On days like this I believe you have to have fundamental reasons for playing the game,” said Reynolds.
“Matches in the freezing cold aren’t always enjoyable but the players’ togetherness was there to see and came through in spades.
“I believe this happens when you have a team that truly gets on with one another and has been together for a long time; it’s nice to be a part of it.
“However, that game is now done and next week is another challenge against a dangerous side in London Irish Wild Geese.”
