Missing Moles cost us victory rues disappointed Herridge

Shrivenham 4 Binfield 1

-

ROGER HERRIDGE says a lack of centre-halves was the key to Binfield’s defeat at Shrivenham.

The Moles were missing Jeff Brown, Liam Gavin and Lewis Leonetti for the trip to Wiltshire, but were level 1-1 at the break thanks to Danny Horscroft’s goal.

However, the hosts outmuscled Binfield after the restart to head themselves 3-1 in front before adding a fourth goal late on.

“Shrivenham are a team in form,” said Herridge.

“That was their sixth win on the trot.

“It was a difficult pitch, they’re a big, strong side and we didn’t have enough big, strong players.

“It was as simple as that really.”

He added: “I had to play Charley (Tuttle) at centrehalf. He’s a very capable player, but he isn’t a centrehalf.

“He’s not the tallest in the world and he’s let a ball bounce in the first minute and the bloke has got in behind him and he’s fouled him and that’s a penalty, 1-0 down.

“We had a good patch to pull a goal back through Danny Horscroft, who has been outstanding in the last few games.

“We’ve then had a goal by Eddie Lee that was a goal not given.

“If that goal is given we go 2-1 up and it may have been a different result.

“Then in the second half, there was nothing in it. 4-1 was a harsh result but they recognised our weakness and our weakness was that if they put a good ball into our area with crosses then they had a physical and aerial advantage.

“Their second and third goals were headers, people didn’t do their jobs and we got punished.

“It’s obviously a disappointing result.

“I’m certainly not going to make excuses but I’d like to see any team in the league have the amount of key players out that I’ve got and it not hurt you a little bit.” BINFIELD: Grace, Sykes (Piercy 45), Tuttle, Smith, Shaw, Santoro (Mitchell 80), Knight, Horscroft, Johnson (Withers 70), Lee, Davies. Attendance: 57
