MAX LASCHOK bagged a brace as Woodley played the role of spoilers to dump the Sumas out of the Subsidiary Cup.

Despite already being knocked out themselves, the Kestrels took Wokingham with them with a 2-1 win at Larges Lane as both sides exit the competition at the group stage.

Woodley made three changes for their first game of 2019 with Callum Sangwell, Richard Thomas and Harrison Moore coming in for Tom Bryant, Harry Hawkins and Jon Malone.

The Sumas also made some switches from their weekend win over Chinnor with Sean Woodward replacing Owen Holland in goal while Jordan Rowland, Richard

Kell, Connor Holland and Ellis

Day started as Elliott Rushforth, Jake White, James Clark and Ben Winship all dropped to the bench.

Woodley edged the early exchanges and took the lead in the 24th minute as Leon Mannion broke down the left and crossed for Laschok to score.

In reply, the Sumas had a goal chalked off for offside before Laschok went close again at the other end, striking a post.

However, the striker would not be denied his second goal for long, making it 2-0 before half-time by tucking in from the penalty spot.

Needing three goals to keep their cup hopes alive, Dan Bateman’s Wokingham improved considerably after the restart.

Sangwell was impressing between the Woodley posts and even when he was beaten, Pele Hagger was on hand to clear two shots off the line.

The Sumas did pull one goal back through Josh Harris just past the hour mark to spark a grandstand finale.

Buoyed by the arrivals of White and Rushforth off the bench, the hosts piled on the pressure, striking the crossbar but Woodley saw out the win during a feisty final few minutes with six men ending the game with yellow cards to their name.

Woodley end third in their group with the Sumas bottom as Holyport and AFC Aldermaston progress.

Jon Laugharne’s men are back in cup action twice this week, home against Chalvey Sports on Saturday in the Supplementary Cup (3pm) before welcoming Ardley United to the Rivermoor in the Reading Senior Cup on Monday night (7.45pm). Meanwhile Wokingham go to

Thame Rangers in the league on Saturday (3pm).
