Seminars will help parents and carers of autistic children
STARTING from next week, some free seminars will help families with autistic children.
Run by Autism Berkshire the workshops are open to parents and carers living in the Wokingham borough and will take place until March.
Parents and carers of autistic children, or whose children are on the Berkshire CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service)
NHS waiting list for an autism assessment are invited to attend and the sessions will look at different aspects of autism and how best to support autistic children, using training materials developed by the National Autistic Society.
The three workshops, which will be held at St Paul’s Church, in Reading Road, Wokingham, on Fridays from 9.30am to 2.30pm, are:
Friday, January 18: Understanding Autism, including a look at the Berkshire CAMHS autism assessment process and support while your child is on the waiting list
Friday, February 8: Meeting Sensory Needs
Friday, March 8: Managing Anger Autism Berkshire’s chief executive officer, Jane Stanford-Beale, will lead the courses in conjunction with autism advocate and trainer Carly Jones OBE, from Arborfield.
Ms Stanford-Beale said: “Places were in high demand when we ran these workshops in Wokingham for the first time during the autumn, so I would advise parents to register straight away.
“That way they won’t miss out on the valuable information they offer and the opportunity to meet other parents and share experiences.”
