Dogknapped Tinker turns up in streets of Finchampstead

- By JAMES HASTINGS

A DOG found wandering in Finchampstead has been reunited with its owner – 200 miles away in Cheshire.

Tinker, a cream coloured lurcher, had been dognapped from the family garden in Sandbach last October.

She was spotted on Boxing Day by a member of the public who took her to a local vet who handed her over to the town’s dog warden.

A scan showed Tinker had a micro chip but the information and address were out of date.

However, a few days later Mandy Dorman, an animal warden, received a call from a woman who claimed to be the dog’s owner.

“The lady, Laura said the previous owner had found her details and contacted her,” explained Mandy.

“Laura emailed me her proof of ownership and I established that Tinker had been stolen from the family garden. Laura then drove down to all the way to Berkshire to collect Tinker who was so happy to see her and the family.”

Now, the Public Protection Partnership, whose remit includes licensing and environmental health issues and works on behalf of Wokingham Borough, Bracknell Forest and West Berkshire Councils, is urging dog owners to keep their pet information up-to-date.

Cllr Iain McCracken, who chairs the joint public protection committee and is from Bracknell Forest Council, said: “We are delighted the PPP has managed to return another stolen dog back to its rightful owner.

“We would also like to remind everyone who has a dog how important it is to register your dog’s microchip.

“You can easily register the microchip with your vet or by contacting the relevant microchip database company online or by phone.

“Please telephone the Public Protection Partnership on 01635 519171 if you would like to find out more about microchipping your dog or if you would like to report a stray animal.”
