Bison stampede over Bracknell’s goal

Bracknell Bees 2 Basingstoke Bison 6

-

JUST THREE points separate the top four sides in NIHL South 1 following some eye-catching results over the weekend.

Having cruised past Peterborough 8-2 on Saturday, Bracknell had the chance to close further on the leaders on Sunday night, but they were well beaten 6-2 by Basingstoke Bison.

Elsewhere Swindon Wildcats picked up two victories, which leaves Bracknell fourth in the table on 43 points with Basingstoke on 44, Swindon on 45 and Phantoms leading on 46 having played fewer games than the rest.

Bees fell behind early on against rivals Basingstoke and never recovered.

Having lost an ill-tempered affair in the reverse fixture last weekend, Bracknell were already 5-0 down before they found the net.

The damage was done in the first period with Bison opening up a three-goal cushion through Alex Sampford, Tom Ralph and Adam Harding.

Dean Skinns was introduced in place of Saturday’s man-of-the-match Danny Milton in the net and he preserved a clean sheet until towards the end of the second when George Norcliffe scored against his former club.

Norcliffe netted again to rub salt into the wounds before Zack Milton pulled one back on the powerplay.

Harding quickly replied with James Galazzi scoring the final goal of the night.

“We had a very mixed weekend with a great performance on Saturday but we’re obviously disappointed with the way we played on Sunday,” said head coach Doug Sheppard.
