BTCI Cup Final: Wargrave 3 Westwood United Reserves 0

WARGRAVE sealed a spectacular league and cup double with a 3-0 victory over Westwood United Reserves in the BTCI Cup Final.

Westwood started well and had a lot of possession but didn’t create much before Wargrave played themselves in to the game.

After 23 minutes, Wargrave scored the opener after Joe Wigmore skipped past three players on the left wing and crossed with his left foot to Sam Wild who scored a brilliant overhead volley from 16 yards out.

Wargrave started the second half strongly and were awarded a penalty after Sam Wild drove at the heart of the Westwood defence before breaking into the box and being fouled. Wargrave’s captain Stuart Moss made no mistake to double his sides advantage from the spot.

It didn’t take Wargrave long to add a third as Joseph Danelian whipped in a dangerous corner which Sam Wild headed in to score his second of the game to put Wargrave within touching distance of the trophy with 30 minutes remaining.

Westwood had a lot of possession and free kicks in the last half hour but didn’t create much as Wargrave’s defence stayed strong with centre backs Tom Bray and Dan Patterson controlling the game throughout.

Wargrave can now celebrate a fine season which saw them secure back- toback promotions to add to their cup final heroics.

Wargrave: Carter, J Wild, Patterson, Bray, Alliston, Smith, Hunter, Danelian, Wigmore, Moss (c), S Wild. Substitutes: Blackall, Few, Rudge, Bettes, Pople.

Combined Counties Division One Eversley & California 3 Chessington & Hook United 4

EVERSLEY & California were defeated in their final game of the season in a heated encounter which saw seven goals and two red cards.

Liam Whyte broke the deadlock but the Boars were pegged back as Chessingotn hit an equaliser before Denis Nortey restored the hosts lead to put them 2-1 in front going into the break.

But the visitors enjoyed a clinical second half as they notched three goals without reply to race into a 4-2 lead before the battle went overboard with the referee dishing out a red card to either side.

The drama on the field wasn’t over either as Whyte scored a stunning goal to give the Boars hope at 4-3 but the away side held on to secure all three points on the last day of the season.
