Oaks enjoy opening game success over Slough

Home Counties Premier League Cup – T20 Wokingham CC 1st XI (136-8) beat Slough CC 1st XI (117-8)

WOKINGHAM progressed in the Premier League T20 in a close encounter which saw them defeat Slough by 19 runs.

Having won the toss and elected to field, Slough made a decent start as they were quick to remove the top order of the Wokingham batsmen, with James Bird and Simon Myles both losing their wicket for a return of zero runs.

Opening batsmen Michael Bates knocked a quick 48 runs from 33 balls to bolster the Oaks innings before Sukhmeet Kang contribute­d with 37 runs from 32 balls as Wokingham set their opponents a target of 136 to catch from 20 overs.

A strong opening partnershi­p saw Slough make a promising start to their innings as Daniyal Akhtar (19) and

Nabil Shah (41) proved to be a tricky combinatio­n.

Slough struggled to recover from the loss of their opening partnershi­p and weren’t able to capitalise on an encouragin­g start to the innings.

The Wokingham bowling attack stayed economical and Paul Dewick (5-13) put in a remarkable bowling display as Slough fell 19 runs short of their target after 20 overs as the Oaks progressed to the next round of the cup. Berkshire Cricket League Premier Division Shinfield CC 1st XI (220-8) beat Ibis Mapledurha­m CC 1st XI (137-8)

SHINFIELD began their league campaign with a comfortabl­e win over Ibis Mapledurha­m thanks to half centuries from opening batsman Michael Page and Saketh Chodimella.

Ibis Mapledurha­m elected to field first and were set an impressive target of 220 to catch from 40 overs by Shinfield.

Having made a blistering start to the innings with an opening partnershi­p of 101 runs, several consistent batting performanc­es helped to keep the score ticking over as Shinfield amassed a total of 220 with two wickets left to spare at the end of the 40 overs.

Ibis Mapledurha­m failed to get anywhere near the target set by their opponents, however David Drury did total an inspiring 48 runs to give his side hope.

But the Shinfield bowling attack stayed consistent and didn’t allow Mapledurha­m to amass an unlikely comeback as they cruised to an 83 run victory.

Elsewhere in the BCL Premier Division, Woodcote earned a comprehens­ive win over Woodley as they won by 115 runs.

A majestic century from Jonny Clark set Woodcote on their way as he hit 18 fours and two sixes to assemble 112 runs.

Stefan Gordon (54) also contribute­d greatly as he collected a half century as Woodcote set Woodley an uncatchabl­e total of 244 from 40 overs despite a five wicket haul from bowler Rizmy Nilamdeen.

Woodley fell well short of the target despite a solid innings from captain Arshad Mohamed who hit 44 runs for his side. But Woodcote were relentless in the field and had bowled Woodley all out for 129 after just 27 overs.

Berkshire Cricket League Division 1 Warfield CC 1st XI (2175) beat Shinfield CC 2nd XI (200 all out)

SHINFIELD were narrowly beaten by Warfield on the opening game of the season as they fell 17 runs short of their target.

Shinfield elected to field first as Warfield hit a total of 217 from 40 overs thanks to Dan Torry (54), Ashley Gander (36) and David Wilson (51).

Despite a hard fought battle and a half century from Liam Prowse, Shinfield fell 17 runs short of the Warfield target as they were bowled all out after 38 overs.

Sandhurst CC 1st XI (473) beat Woodley CC 1st XI (46 all out)

ALSO in BCL Division 1, Sandhurst raced to an easy victory against Woodley.

Sandhurst elected to field first and justified their decision with a remarkable bowling and fielding performanc­e. Conor Pharo boasted incredible bowling figures of 4-5 including a hat-trick while Luke Mills took four more wickets for just 17 runs.

Having bowled their opponents all out for 46, Sandhurst wasted no time in surpassing that target and it took them just 7.5 overs as Adam Battison scored the majority of the runs with a total of 28.

Berkshire Cricket League Division 2 Checkendon CC 2nd XI (298-7) beat Wokingham CC 6th XI (119 all out)

THE Oaks’ 6th XI were defeated heavily in their opening game by Checkendon 2nd XI.

Prashant Khare hit a century for Checkendon as he scored a quick 107, including seven fours, from 117 balls.

Wokingham were unable to make a good chase of the target as they bowled all out for 119 after 33.2 overs.

Berkshire Cricket League Division 3 Shinfield CC 3rd XI (176-7) beat Binfield CC 4th XI (145 all out)

SHINFIELD 3rd XI got off to a winning start in their league campaign as they beat Binfield

4th XI.

Shinfield were put into bat first by Binfield and a mammoth innings from Tony Gaylor, who knocked 96 runs from 96 balls including 14 fours and a six, helped his side to set a target of 176 to catch.

Binfield tested Shinfield and looked like they would put up a close chase as captain

Jim Browning amassed a half century on his way to hitting 56 runs.

However, the middle order and tail end were quickly dismissed by some fine bowling including Vivek

Vasist who picked up four wickets.
