STEVE McManus, Chief Executive for the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, said that he is delighted to announce that Dr Janet Lippett will take on the role of Medical Director following the retirement of Dr Lindsey Barker, the Trust’s current Medical Director.

Dr Lippett was appointed following a robust internal selection process and will hold the post for a 12-month fixed term period, starting from the end of June

Steve said: “Janet has a wealth of experience and is held in high regard by colleagues across the Trust; she will be a great asset to the team and I very much look forward to welcoming her to the Board and to continuing to work with her in the future.

“I would also take this opportunity to thank Lindsey for her commitment. She has been our Medical Director for nearly five years and with the Trust for 29 years both as a renal consultant and senior manager. Lindsey has been a muchvalued member of the Board, providing sound clinical management and I wish her all the very best for the future.

Janet qualified in 1999 at St George’s Hospital, London and has always had a special interest in geriatric medicine.

She joined the Royal Berkshire in 2007 with a remit to develop an orthogeriatric service, and along with colleagues developed a hip-fracture service for elderly trauma patients that is in the top 10 rated services in the national hip fracture database annual report.

Moving into management in 2010 as a Clinical Director for Specialist Medicine, Janet has worked on a number of key projects for the Trust.

In 2015 she became Care Group Director for Networked Care; a role which enables her to work closely with the CCG and other providers to ensure high quality care across the health economy.

She has also been instrumental in the Frail Elderly Pathway and the recent enhanced support to care home project.

She continues to enjoy her time as a medical educator and is an Associate of the Higher Education Academy (AHEA); teaching junior doctors of all grades, she is an ALS and GIC instructor and also teaches communication skills (Sage and Thyme) for multi-professional staff at the Trust. Janet also plays an active role in research, and has recently completed, as co-investigator, a three-year NIHR funded project with colleagues in Oxford.

Janet said: “I am delighted to be taking up the role of Medical Director. It is a great opportunity for me and I look forward to working with executive colleagues both here at the Trust and across the wider health economy for the benefit of the communities we serve.”
