Sonning stun Newbury

Sonning CC 1st XI (252-8) beat Newbury CC 1st XI (52 all out)

SONNING opened their league campaign with a comprehens­ive victory in division 4A.

Newbury put their opponents into bat and were set a difficult target of 252 to catch, a target they would get nowhere near as Sonning bowled them all out for just 52 after 24.4 overs.

Meanwhile, in division 3A

WOKINGHAM 2S were comfortabl­y beaten by Purley on Thames who recorded a 54 run victory on the opening weekend of the season. Purley set Wokingham a target of 191 but were bowled all out for 137 after 36.4 overs.

BINFIELD and FINCHAMPST­EAD 3S also both suffered heavy defeats in division 3A as they were both thrashed by 10 wickets.

But WOKINGHAM 3S endured a better weekend than their 2nd XI clubmates, as they started their league campaign with a 49 run win against Theale and Tilehurst in division 4A.

The Oaks set Theale a score of 249 to catch and ended up securing victory after their opponents fell 49 runs short of the target after the allotted 45 overs.

The Oaks were put onto bat and despite a promising start from opening batsmen John Barker (22), they only managed to set their opponents a target of 91 to catch as they were bowled all out after 44.4 overs.

Despite some impressive bowling, including Dilip Maringhant­i (4-30), the Oaks were unable to prevent their opponents from racing to victory as Yateley surpassed the chase after just 22 overs.

Elsewhere in division 4A,

SONNING romped to an easy victory as they beat Newbury by 200 runs.

WHITE WALTHAM picked up a win with a four wicket triumph over Bracknell and WARGRAVE 2S beat North Maidenhead by three wickets.

EVERSLEY 2S endured a large defeat as Falkland 3s cruised to a 304 run victory in division 5B, meanwhile BINFIELD 2S were narrowly defeated by one wicket against Henley 3s.

SONNING 2s were defeated in their first league match losing by seven wickets to Bradfield in division 6B as FINCHAMPST­EAD

4S were beaten by Reading 3s by 56 runs. WOKINGHAM 4S made a losing start to their league season as

YATELEY clinched a three wicket victory on the opening weekend in division 7A. Elsewhere in the division, WARGRAVE 3S made a winning start with a 54 run success against BINFIELD 3S.

In division 8A, WOKINGHAM 5S beat Bagshot 3s. Wokingham were put into bat first and scored a total of 166 as they were bowled all out after 39.1 overs.

Bagshot were bowled all out for 120 after 35.3 overs. FINCHAMPST­EAD 5S picked up a 68 run victory against Bracknell 2s and EVERSLEY 3S were also victorious with a five wicket win against Boyne Hill.

EVERSLEY 4S were beaten heavily in division 9A as Marlow Park cruised to a five wicket victory having chased down the total of 95 set by Eversley in just 18.2 overs.
