Hurst have the edge over Royal Ascot

THE TVCL commenced on Saturday last and Hurst visited Royal Ascot for the first game of the season.

Hurst batted first but lost Alex Kayser in the opening over caught by Jack Kendall bowled by Charlie Dunnett who in the ninth over trapped Lewis Smith, LBW for 9.

Nick Sweetman caught James Watt for five runs to give Mike Brown a wicket in the 14th over and Hust were three down for 31.

Max Carroll was then joined by Ollie Lovegrove and they made a decent stand of 98 when Nick Wiggett bowled him when on 42, including four boundaries in the 40th over.

Lovegrove continued with Chris McCarthy who sent 5 massive sixes, three off Dunnett's bowling and two off Jack Kendall in his stand with the aforementi­oned.

The fifth wicket to fall was in the 46th over when Lovegrove was caught Wiggett bowled Dunnett for 82, including eight boundaries.

Three overs later McCarthy

(45) was bowled by Jack Kendall when Hurst had amassed 220 for 6. Tim Walder had just got off the mark when he was adjudged LBW bowled Kendall in over 49, and Sam Hawkes went two runs later for five by Dunnett, who also had Nick Reynolds caught by James Gamble for one.

Gamble was caught by wicketkeep­er Walder in the 15th over for 11 bowled by Andy Ruddock. First wicket gone for 58 and incoming batsman Nick Sweetman went LBW to Phil Higgs in the following over at 60 for two.

Andy English made way for Jack Kendall when he was caught by Lewis Smith for 42, Ruddock being the bowler. Kendall and Dunnett for almost 10 overs when the latter fell LBW to Nick Reynolds for 14 on 116 for four.

Try was bowled for 1 the next over and then Jack Kendall was stumped by Walder when

Ascot had reached 136 for 37.

Josh Jayasingh was caught by Lovegrove off Smith for seven in the following over without any score being added then, Andy Murray steadied things for six overs when Lovegrove caught him off Smith for 9 on 151, well short of the target.

Mike Brown was bowled by

Smith for 1 in over 46 and lastly

Nick Wiggett who battled for 21 was bowled by McCarthy leaving Kevin May not out for 12 and Ascot fell well short of Hurst's total. Being the first game of the League season, a lot of extras were conceded, 35 by the hosts and 25 by the visitors.
