Easthampstead Rotary Club
OVER recent weeks, more than a dozen Easthampstead Rotary volunteers have been helping with a project to feed families in need over this summer holiday period, before our schools start up again in September.
The Box of Hope initiative is run by nationwide charity TLG Transforming Lives for Good, in cooperation with the Kerith Community Church which has hosted the volunteers sourcing, packing and delivering the Boxes of Hope now to scores of families in and around Bracknell – more than 200 hungrymouths to feed.
“WOW— what a week it's been for our Box of Hope team,” said project leader Lynn Davidson, after the first week's operation.
"We have delivered food and family necessities plus selected games and treats to more than 60 families in need of help and support over this summer holiday period."
And she added: “Just last week we reached - 98 adults and 150 children. We've had some wonderful reactions from the families."
Lynn said that typical comments include: “The boxes have been an amazing help to me and my young family. The children really love the games and the little surprises they get. We're so grateful.”
Families were referred to the project by local schools, churches and community groups.
"One Mum" Lynn recalls "had been very anxious about where the meals for the next few days would come from. Our Box of Hope arrived at the door the very next morning — she was overwhelmed."
The Easthampstead Rotary volunteers are helping pack the Boxes of Hope. With their 'gettogethers' suspended during Covid-19, members have been donating their time and meal costs to the Bracknell andWokingham Foodbanks, The Cowshed, and now to the Box of Hope initiative.
