THREE dancers from Wokingham will take to the stage with the English Youth Ballet later this month.

Isla Wastell and Amy Williams, both 11, and Holly Williams, 16, will perform in Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake in Aylesbury.

Holly and Amy are sisters who attend The Holt School.

All three girls are pupils at Bronia Pearce Dance Company, and Amy performed in The Nutcracker with the EYB last year.

The girls were selected to join the company of six international principal dancers and 90 young people, from more than 150 hopefuls who auditioned.

MBE said that the cast have shown enthusiasm for Swan Lake rehearsals, which took place at weekends at Aylesbury High School.

“They have been working hard on their ballet technique and their performance quality, expressed in the part the are dancing,” she said.

Swan Lake is set in 1895 Imperial Russia and tells of love, rivalry, greed and murder.

It is set in the palace of the tsar and in the Mariinsky Theatre, where the Mariinsky Ballet are preparing for a production of Swan Lake.

It tells the tale of Odette, a dancer with the Mariinsky Ballet, and Prince Sergei, the tsar’s son, who meet and fall in love.

The tsar does not want his son to marry beneath him, and Baron Von Rothbart would do anything to secure a royal patronage for his ballet company.

He would even manipulate his own daughter – Odile – to compete for the affections of the Prince.

The performances at the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury have been rescheduled after planned the 2020 run was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Performances take place on Tuesday, March 22, at 8pm and Wednesday, March 23, at 4pm and 8pm.

Tickets cost from £13.
