Volunteer Corner

BUILDING for the Future is a Wokingham-based, parent-led charity providing activities, support and therapy for children with disabilities and/or extra needs and their families.

We are looking for volunteers to help at various groups we run from Our House in Wokingham.

Ladybirds (0- 5yrs) on Fridays 9.30-11.30am approx 2 per month, Youth club on Fridays 7-9pm approx 2 per month

Saturday club 11-1pm (quiet session) 3-5pm (active session) approx 2 per month and we also run Holiday clubs.

Our House is a unique and accessible play centre for children with any disability.

These are not respite sessions as parents are always in the building, but a willingness to play and ensure the children have the most fun they can have is vital!

Please contact us even if you can only commit to one session a month.

■ Thrive uses gardening to bring about positive changes in the lives of people living with disabilities or ill health, or who are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable.

We run social and therapeutic horticulture sessions at our gardens in Beech Hill and we are looking for escorts to support our minibus driver on morning and afternoon journeys from/to Basingstoke Station on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week.

The main responsibility of an escort is to support and assist the minibus driver.

Escorts will need to arrive at the Thrive Reading by 8:25 am to leave promptly at 8.30 am, and will return by 9.45 am.

The bus leaves our centre at 3pm in the afternoon and returns by 4.30pm.

It is envisaged that this will be a shared role between a pool of volunteers so please let us know if you are interested in any of the times. Training, induction and support will be given.

Please note: this is not a driving role.

■ At First Days, we give choice, restore dignity and empower families who are living with a low income or are experiencing financial hardship.

We are looking for volunteers to assist the family support team in achieving First Days main aims by getting essential items out into local communities to families and supporting outreach events.

You will be responsible for: supporting First Days in delivering support directly to families, in the warehouse and local community, supporting the Family Support Team in working with families at outreach events, to provide suitable items, picking & distributing appropriate items from the warehouse to fulfill requests for support, working with families over the phone, and signposting to services and administrative tasks, such as maintaining a stock checklist and data entry

■ These are just a few roles on our books. Please visit our website www. volunteer wokingham borough. org.uk to find out more and have a look at all the roles we have to offer. If you would like to get in touch with us, please call 0118 977 0749 or email volunteer@ wok-vol.org.uk.
