We fix sat nav mix-up

-

MOTORISTS using Google Maps to try and avoid California Crossroads will no longer be sent on a dead-end diversion, thanks to Wokingham.

Today.

We contacted Google after learning lorries were among those being sent down Gorse Ride North and South, and ending up stuck in the car park to Gorse Ride Infants School, which links to the FBC Centre.

This is not a throughfare, but drivers were being sent along this route if they were using Google Maps to direct their sat nav system.

Finchampstead residents reported a host of issues caused by cars, vans and lorries attempting to turn around after discovering their diversion was nothing of the sort.

And when Wokingham. Today learnt of the problems on Thursday, February 15, we leapt into action and contacted Google to get the diversion corrected.

The internet giant was quick to respond.

A spokesperson said: “Our team have looked into this and have amended Maps to correct this issue. It may take a few days to update completely.”

They said Google welcomes feedback on its navigation to improve its accuracy for other users.

This can be done from Google Maps. On a computer, it means clicking ‘Main menu’ in the top left corner of the screen and choosing to ‘Edit the Map’ and then ‘Choose your opinions about Maps’.

There is an option to add a screenshot with feedback. Google’s advice is to be as specific as possible, and descriptions are welcomed if the person reporting is unsure what something is called.

“The more we know, the more likely we can fix it,” Google’s help page reads.
