Wokingham Today

What kind of society are we becoming?

-

Your excellent article by Andrew Batt about the California Crossroads and the threatened stabbing of a worker there ( Wokingham.Today, February 15) made me ask what kind of society we are becoming.

In Wokingham, as in other places in this wonderful country, we see signs of problems in how we treat each other and decline.

I think we are all at a crossroads when people treat each other with such disrespect that workers trying ironically to make our journeys better get abused and deliberately driven into and hit.

The potholes I see all over Wokingham and Reading are another sign of a society with problems as it is with people dumping bags of rubbish and driving off and e-scooter antisocial behaviour. The increased need for food banks is another sign.

We must all work together with respect to improve our society and create a better place for our children to grow up in and for us to feel proud.

I want a society where everyone treats each other with respect and dignity be they a road worker, an elderly shopper, or anyone we encounter in our daily lives.

The crossroads we are at is a big one. We need to renew our towns and cities and it all starts with us and how we behave.

Let’s all be kinder to each other and live in a society where we improve our journeys in all ways. At a time of elections and renewal, it’s especially important to slow down and consider how treat each other and where we want to get to.

Let’s ALL work together to make the borough that place.
