‘WE DID OUR TALKING ON THE GRASS’: SELLES REACTS TO AWAY VICTORY

READING FC manager Ruben Selles said his team did their ‘talking on the grass’ as they eased their relegation fears with a win at Carlisle United.

A goal from Sam Smith and a brace from Harvey Knibbs helped the Royals climb up to 16th in the League One table just days after their latest points deduction.

Reading are now five points above the drop zone and have 10 games left to play.

“There was a moment where there was a little bit of doubt in the boys,” said Selles.

“We need to learn how to win those games and kill the game in the proper moment. We need to review those 30 minutes because we must be better.

“We have been learning from losses enough times this season.

“We need to know against other opponents in other circumstances that we can complicate ourselves.

“I’m pleased with the performance but think we can be more robust and finish the game before.”

Selles was full of praise for his captain Andy Yiadom as well as goalscorer Knibbs.

He continued: “Yids (Yiadom) has been amazing. The last four to five months he’s leading the team in the dressing room, his football abilities you can see on the pitch both attacking and defending.

“Football is about putting players in the best position to show themselves.

“We know he has this ability in the one versus one and he was very close to the box. Harvey (Knibbs) makes a good movement in the space.”

Selles also responded after some comments in the build up to the game from Carlise boss Paul Simpson who suggested that the Royals should have received a harsher punishment.

“We don’t pay attention to anybody. There is a lot of noise around us for a lot of different reasons.

“I know he (Paul Simpson) made some comments, but they assured me that the context was not like that.

“We speak on the grass and that’s the best way to do it.

“The team is very motivated to get us back on track.”
