Pothole-infested road to be resurfaced

- By SUE CORCORAN news@wokingham.today

A KEY link road through the borough is being resurfaced after many complaints by drivers.

In July last year, motorists were seen driving on the wrong side of Lodge Road, Hurst, part of the busy B3030 Winnersh to Twyford route, to avoid potholes.

Now residents have received letters saying Lodge Road will have remedial resurfacing between its junctions with Church Hill and the A321 Broadwater Lane.

This will be overnight, between 7pm on Friday, March 15 and 6am on Saturday, March 16, provided the weather is right. Rainwater would mean the road treatment did not apply properly.

Teacher, Sarah Barnard of Hurst told Wokingham Today last July that potholes had been a dangerous problem for vehicle drivers, motorcyclists and pedal cyclists ‘ for a good few months’.

Last week, she said: “I’m very pleased to hear they are going to do some work on that road surface because it’s been in a poor state for a long time, despite some of the works carried out last year. They did some bits better than others.

“I look forward to the road being restored to having a safe and durable surface.”

The letter from Wokingham Highways Alliance, which includes the borough council, tells residents: “Please note that due to these works being remedial intended to improve prior works, they are not being undertaken at the expense of Wokingham Borough Council.

During the night of the works, no vehicles will be allowed onto Lodge Road. Drivers are asked not to park on the road during the work and warned they may have access to properties restricted or delayed.

A southbound diversion will be by Broadwater Lane, Wokingham Road, Twyford Road, Queens Road, Toutley Road, Old Forest Road, Reading Road, Robin Hood Lane and Davis Street. The route is reversed to go northbound.

The letter warns that in the past other contractors claiming to work for the council have offered to resurface private driveways. The Lodge Road contractor has been instructed that they will not carry out private works.

It’s suggested residents use only recognised professional contractors for any work and check their identity.
