SONNING COMMON RECORD FIRST VICTORY OF THE SEASON

ALTHOUGH almost certainly relegated, SONNING COMMON & PEPPARD D left it late in the season to record their first win, a 7-3 against their C team, who are not yet safe from the two relegation places.

Simon Berry, Nigel Maltby and Brian Meheux each won two each, the latter with a fine victory over Danny Dockree who also won two. KINGFISHER C may well end up fourth, helped by a 7-3 win over SONNING SPORTS A.

Nigel Keedy and Phil Mead starred with maximums and they also took the extra point for the doubles 11-9 in the fifth.

TIDMARSH A who currently occupy fourth lost out 3-7 as they hosted runners-up SONNING

COMMON & PEPPARD A.

Ed Lush and Ian Cole remained unbeaten for the visitors although it could have easily been a draw as both Antony Baker and Duncan Groves pushed Ian to a deciding fifth leg.

Elsewhere third placed KINGFISHER B swept through TILEHURST RBL A 9-1, the consolation point coming from Keith Winter over Julian Telford 11-9 13-11 8-11 3-11 11-9.

Division Two leaders READING FC were surprisingly held to a draw by KINGFISHER G despite Mike Childs usual maximum.

READING FC’S Simon Rowland suffered two rare defeats in this match, including losing three straight to Parvin Baishkyar.

Second placed KINGFISHER F won 7-3 at SPRINGFIELD A, a result which just about guarantees them the runners up spot, in a match which featured many close sets.

KINGFISHER E beat a weakened TILEHURST RBL B 8-2 with ‘reserve’ Akeel Mir getting a maximum which included a win over star player Kate Maksimenko.

OUR LADY OF PEACE A beat PANGBOURNE WMC 9-1 which condemns Pangbourne to Division Three table tennis next season, Chris West recorded a three straight maximum for OLOP.

TIDMARSH B won 9-1 at bottom team KINGFISHER H, the sole win for the Kingfisher team came from youngster Vivaan Karalkar with a three straight victory over Mike

Alstrop.

Game Week 27 was the penultimate week for Division Three. In the first match, SONNING COMMON & PEPPARD E drew with OUR LADY OF PEACE D. The away team’s captain, Louise Forster, was the star of the match with her treble.

It was a very close match which could go either side but the highlight of the match was Jim Warren vs James Smith match which ended in fifth and James won in the deuce: 8-11, 4-11, 11-7, 11-6, 10-12.

The same night, TILEHURST METHODISTS B hosted SONNING SPORTS B and the away team won 6-4. James Miller, who played up for the away team was the Player of the Match with his treble, and this helped his team to win the match.

The next day, division leaders OUR LADY OF PEACE C saw TIDMARSH D and won this important match 9-1.

In the first half, Tidmarsh D gave them a hard time, and they drew at home.

However, this time, it was a one-sided game, and Dave Edwards scored the only point for the away team. With this win, OLOP C extended their lead and gained a massive advantage.

The last match of the week was TILEHURST METHODIST’S derby in which A team beat their C team 10-0.

It was a bad day at the office for the C team. SONNING SPORTS D needed a draw against SONNING COMMON & PEPPARD F to win the Division Four championship and thanks mainly to James Miller they did so with his maximum.

Doubles from Mike Casserely and Oliver Bonser and a single from Gerry Bacon gave the Commoners a draw that leaves them needing a draw or better in their final match against SPRINGFIELD B to pip SPRINGFIELD C to the runners up spot.

Roland Marslin hit a treble to help OUR

LADY OF PEACE F beat KINGFISHER L 7-3 while SPRINGFIELD C beat SONNING SPORTS C 7-3 with Marcello Caramma winning all three.

Fitzroy Licorish and Pat Daniels both recorded trebles to help in-form

PEACE E beat 8-2.
