- By ANDREW BATT abatt@wokingham.today

SCENES that were created in Wokingham borough are part of a charttopping movie around the world, that grossed more than $100 million at the box office during its opening weekend.

Parts of Columbia Pictures’ Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, were filmed at Shinfield Studios and Winnersh Studios last year.

A spokesperson for the Berkshire Film Office told Wokingham Today: “We facilitated filming on location for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, alongside Wokingham Borough Council.

“The production truly made the most of Berkshire, utilising our locations and local studios such as Shinfield Studios and Winnersh Film Studios.

“Berkshire is truly a hub for filming, and we can’t wait to welcome more of it.”

Nick Smith, joint managing director of Shinfield Studios said: “We designed Shinfield Studios to attract some of the world’s leading film and television productions,

“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a fantastic example of this.

“To see one of the most iconic film sets being built on our sound stages right here in Wokingham was a special moment, only made better when the original Ghostbusters actors arrived to shoot their scenes.

“We are now in the very final stages of construction of Shinfield Studios and looking forward to bringing even more movie fan favourites to the region.” 09:00 Stage Page Fifty’s 1 CEO James Enright added: “Hosting the production of Ghostbusters:

Frozen Empire at Stage Fifty’s Winnersh Film Studios was incredible.

“We take pride in delivering an exceptional environment for filmmakers, and it’s testament to the capabilities and quality of our facilities and the expertise of our people that the Ghostbusters team chose Winnersh Film Studios to bring the latest instalment of their iconic franchise to life.”

In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which debuted last week, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level.

But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an army of ghosts that casts a death chill upon the city, Ghostbusters old and new must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

Wide shots were filmed on Fifth Avenue in New York, but as the chaos erupted filming shifted to the Berkshire sound stages.

Much of the action takes place inside the New York firehouse itself, BAFTA-winning production designer Eve Stewart and her team recreated the entire firehouse building – three floors plus an attic – on set in Wokingham borough.
