VOLUNTEERCORNER

-

WE are looking for volunteers to help us to create and maintain a community and sensory garden at the Acorn Community Centre.

This is an exciting new project and will help reinvigorate the space. We need support from volunteers on Wednesdays 10am and noon.

You will need to enjoy gardening and/or have the desire to learn gardening skills, have a caring, team attitude and a willingness to get involved.

No experience is needed, current volunteers will show you the tasks. Bring your own gloves.

We are also looking for a volunteer to help with our social media, by posting regular updates on our Facebook page.

Only approximately half-anhour time commitment per week is needed and you can volunteer from home.

If you are interested in either role, please get in touch.

■ Read Easy provides free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, through a network of volunteer groups.

Read Easy groups are changing the lives of individual adults across the country by providing them with the support they need to learn to read, and in turn opening doors for them to all sorts of new opportunities in life.

We are looking to recruit a Deputy Team Leader for the Wokingham/Reading area.

As Deputy Team Leader you would support the Team Leader within a friendly group of volunteers.

The Deputy Team Leader would be involved with setting goals and planning activities so that the group functions effectively in delivering reading coaching to as many local people as possible.

■ CLASP is a self-advocacy group for people with learning disabilities in the Wokingham Borough.

As a user-led organisation, CLASP is run by our members. We employ people with learning disabilities and offer voluntary opportunities.

We support our members to have their say about how local services are developed, and we provide one-to-one support, information, advice and signposting. We are looking for volunteers to help at our sports sessions.

These are normally in

Wokingham Carnival Hub on Wednesday mornings from 10.30am to 11.30am.

We do a mix of badminton, walking football, basketball, netball, and circuits and are due to try cricket and boxing.

We are looking for someone keen to support and join in these activities.

We have a coach from the sports centre and anyone who needs a carer has one attend as well, but we would really benefit from a volunteer’s help, so please get in touch.

■ If you are interested in any of these roles or would like to discuss volunteering in general, please get in touch with our Volunteer Services Manager, Helena Badger on 0118 977 0749 or email volunteer@wok-vol. org.uk. To see all of volunteering roles, please visit www. volunteerwokinghamborough. org.uk

■ Date for your diary - our next Volunteer Recruitment Fair will be taking place at Lower Earley library on Tuesday, April 16 between 10am and noon. Pop down and meet local charities and have an informal chat about how you can get involved.
