Women’s group seeks speakers

-

A WOMEN’S group previously known as Twyford Women’s Group is relaunching in April with a new name, Twyford and Wargrave Women’s Group.

Organiser Jane Barker is looking for interesting speakers to come and share their stories with the members.

“Our speakers are many and varied, ranging from local small business owners to the Prime Minister,” she said. “We put out a call a few days ago, and we’ve already had a great response from people with a story to share, or a business they’d like to come and tell us about.

“The slots are now booked up until February next year, but we’d still love to hear from more speakers for our meetings in 2025.

“My personal favourites are speakers who tell us about their lives – everyone has an interesting story to tell.”

The group has more than 300 Facebook members, many in their 50s and above.

“Our emphasis is more on fostering friendships and support. Since lockdown making friends is even more important – lots of people are still out of the habit of meeting up,” Ms

Barker said. “This group is a great opportunity to connect with people. We meet seven to 10 times a year, for lunch, with room for 24 members. Our Christmas parties can accommodate nearer 50.”

Lunchtime speakers are not paid, but are treated to lunch at the venue, the Hennerton Golf Club, Wargrave.

Meetings cost £15 to attend, including lunch, refreshments, and a talk from a visiting speaker. The group will relaunch on Thursday, April 25. Anyone interested in speaking, or joining, should contact the group via Facebook, or email: jane@bftf.org.uk.
