£25,000? You must be having a laugh

-

COMEDY nights at Wokingham Theatre have always raised more than giggles.

In the last two years the events have also generated £25,000 for charities and good causes in the borough.

Organised by Wokingham Lions Club, and held at Wokingham Theatre, the final event of this season can be enjoyed in May.

A new series will begin in October, with dates to be revealed later in the summer.

In March 2022 the very first #WOKY Comedy Night opened to a sold-out crowd at the Wokingham Theatre, in Cantley Park.

The evening raised £2,500 for charity, and as a result has become a regular feature in the Wokingham event calendar.

Last month the group hosted their 10th comedy event, again to a sell-out audience, bringing the total raised for good causes in the last

two years to more than £25K.

A spokesman for the Wokingham Lions Club said, “What started out as an experiment, has turned into something the club has become very proud of.

“Each show features three top comedians and an MC, and has proved very popular with the people of Wokingham.

“However, a lot of the credit must go to the theatre.

“It’s a wonderful venue, perfect for comedy and is probably one of Wokingham’s best kept secrets.

“If you’ve never been, I recommend you go.

“Throughout the year they put on some excellent productions”.

The last #WOKY Comedy Night of the season is on Friday, May 17, at 8.30pm. Tickets cost £18, and are available from the Wokingham Theatre box office.
