‘WE HAVE OUR TARGETS’: MANAGER ON READING’S SUMMER PLANS

READING FC manager Ruben

Selles has outlined his plans for the summer transfer window, but admits he must remain patient with an impending takeover still being negotiated.

The Royals are expecting a takeover to be completed in the coming weeks with the long process of Dai Yongge selling the club finally coming to a close.

“With the takeover the club has been informing through the official channels, we are not at the point where we can see where we are with the new owners,” said Selles.

“We are also at the point where we cannot have the same set up as before.

“What we’re trying to do is organise the pre-season being at home and having preparation matches.

“With the squad we know what we want and how we want it.

“We have our targets in the market that we can have but we need to wait for some kind of confirmation because right now we don’t have any budget confirmation for the next season. So we need to wait.”

Selles explained that there are some players in the squad who have their contracts expiring in the summer, but said the club do have an option to extend some of those deals.

Meanwhile, transfer plans are on hold until a takeover is completed.

He continued: “We have a plan and a strategy, we know what we want with the squad which right now has been doing fantastic.

“We need to keep calm and move in that direction, anything else would be a big mistake. When the time comes, hopefully sooner than later, because then we are in the same situation as last year not being able to sign the players that we want.

“If it is soon done then we can start the preparation. The later we get that process with the takeover, the more difficult it will be again.

“Some of the situations we have, we have some players where we can extend their contracts from the club so we have an extra year option.

“Those boys are very clear for me that they need to stay with us.

“Other situations we cannot make a decision if we do not know our budget or any other specific parts of the agreement.

“We prepare everything for the day that we know who is responsible to give us the thumbs up and then it will be their decision if they want to continue with the project or want to go with something different.”
