The new way to BUY ART
Create a focal point with a stunning original artwork
If you’ve considered buying original artworks for your home and want the heads-up on where to start looking, it’s time you discovered the brilliant new Runway Gallery.
This online gallery, set up by abstract artist SYRETT, is home to the work of 14 major contemporary artists including photographer Sandro Hyams, Louise Dear, Dara Vandor, Astrid Vos and Bruce Atherton, all of whom have exhibited internationally and boast a dedicated following. Many of the artists are also part of the XIII Untitled movement inspired by fashion.
You can browse the artists’ work, discover more about them and buy online – limited-edition prints start from £200, with original signed works rising to £20,000.
SYRETT has also launched a monthly Soho Salon Supper Club in London, where artists and art lovers get together for an artist’s talk, a short life-drawing session and a three-course supper at Soho’s highly praised new restaurant Scarlett Green. Plus you’ll benefit from a discount on art bought on the night. SANDRO HYAMS is a photographer who specialises in dramatic images for beauty and fashion. Sandro’s clients read as a who’s-who of top global brands, celebrities and icons including Dior, Vogue, Marie Claire,
Harrods, Pink Floyd and Iggy Pop.
We caught up with him to hear about his life and inspiration. How did you become a photographer? I started out as the studio assistant at Lipstick – at the time London’s premier studio. I assisted photographers such as Nick Knight and worked with top names and titles including Italian Vogue.
What inspires you? Great pictures that make you stop and say ‘Wow!’. How would you describe your style? Classic with a slight twist – I follow the masters like Blumenfeld and Horst. How do people react to your work? If I’m lucky they’ll say it’s amazing!
What’s your process? After my initial idea I create a mood board with the help of a make-up artist. Next we choose a model, then on the shoot day I will prepare the studio lighting etc with an assistant. If it’s a commission, the client is involved too.
How important are trends to you? For me, trends are more of a background thought. My aim is to create something new and amazing with perhaps just a 10% reference to current trends…
If you could own one artwork what
would it be? Terry O’Neill’s Diamond Dogs Bowie image, the one with the Great Dane. I had a large, framed print of it, which I sold a few years ago. Any advice for people who want to buy photography for their homes? Always follow your gut feeling, whether the artist is up-and-coming or not. Obviously budget is a factor but go with what you love.
