LAURA MILLAR is an award-winning travel writer who attributes her love of “abroad” to spending the first 16 years of her life holidaying in France every year, thanks to her French mother. Since then she’s ramped up the wanderlust and visited places as diverse as Iran, Haiti and Patagonia. She reveals the best places to explore nature in the UK on p116. ELISA ROCHE, w&h food director, started her culinary career on Channel 4’s Jamie’s Kitchen, in which Jamie Oliver taught 15 young people to cook as they launched east London restaurant, Fifteen. Jamie and Elisa became great friends, and have cooked together at 10 Downing Street and for Sir Richard Branson and Oprah Winfrey.

Tell us about a time you tore up the rule book? I painted the hallway shocking pink. Everyone says small spaces should be white but I adore my punk-style entrance.

Tell us about a time you tore up the rule book? Having lived in Australia for 16 years, I recently escaped to the country – on the other side of the world. I swapped my Sydney house and career for freelancin­g from a cottage in Kent, with my partner and two daughters. So far, I don’t miss the sun… well, OK, I do really!
