Say goodbye to…
feathering lipstick, creasing eyeshadow & ageing brows
We’ve all experienced the feel-good factor of applying make-up, right? But sometimes looking in the mirror can have the opposite effect. Here’s how to overcome challenges
Combat crepey eyelids “Your skin is at its finest here,” says Nadine Baggott, 56, a YouTuber whose Beauty For Grown Ups channel has 87,000 subscribers. “So it’s the first place to show signs of ageing. How does it affect your make-up? “Well, it’s hard to apply liner,” says Nadine. “You can end up with a juddery line.” But she’s adamant you shouldn’t skip this step. “You need the definition here!”
Her advice? “Take a super-soft pencil, and apply it as close to the lash line as possible. Then blend it with NARS Smudge Brush #45. Afterwards I recommend a matte powder shadow to add further definition and set it.
You can also work the pencil up and underneath the lashes to add more definition.” Another challenge on more mature lids is eyeshadow. “A key issue for my customers is that their eyelids are no longer smooth,” says Tricia Cusden, 73, whose Look Fabulous Forever brand is designed for older women. “It means shadow creases more easily and is harder to apply.” Her solution is an eye primer. “It means any shadow you put on stays put and doesn’t get absorbed. Our Smooth Out Eye Prime covers discolouration on the lids, which is another thing many women complain about. Then when it comes to eyeshadows, I always recommend matte textures, as shimmery shadows just draw attention to any imperfections.”
