The dress
This floral dress (£299, whistles.com) has an easy maxi shape and flattering silhouette that will work with a low heel or wedge. With such a bold print you can keep jewellery to a minimum if you prefer, and opt for some colourful accessories instead.
The shoes
These comfortable platform espadrille wedges with pretty ribbon ties are more practical than a heel, but will still give a little height if you’re wearing a dress (£145, russellandbromley.co.uk).
The hat
Headwear isn’t necessary, and avoid wide brims that can spoil other people’s view of the gardens. This gorgeous floral band by Justine Bradley-Hill (£350, justinebradley-hill.co.uk) is colourful and dramatic, but won’t get in anyone’s way. If a very hot day is forecast, then it’s advisable to have a lightweight brimmed hat instead.
The accessories
