june is when everything comes up roses, so it’s the perfect time to head out and celebrate england’s national flower. we love the walled garden at mottisfont in hampshire (nationaltrust.org.uk), home to the national collection of old-fashioned roses. kiftsgate court gardens (kiftsgate.co.uk) in gloucestershire is another beauty. plus, the aptly named rhs garden rosemoor in devon is home to more than 200 rose varieties and is holding a rose festival (15 june-21 july; rhs.org.uk).
