My favourite things What makes actress katherine kelly happy

The actress tells us about a few of her greatest loves

-

Katherine, 39, is married with two young children. She’s about to star in the film, Dirty God. But you’ll know her from ITV’s Corrie, Mr Selfridge and Cheat…

BEING AN ACTRESS Not a day goes by that I don’t realise and appreciate I am getting paid to do something I have always loved. I get to inhabit the world of other human beings, not just factually but emotionally. I’m constantly learning about the psychological make-up of others.

RELAXING I unwind by reading books and listening to music. I have just finished As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning by Laurie Lee. But the things I want to do are ever-changing.

SELFLESS FRIENdS

My dear friend Kevin Lidlow, who is a wonder in the world of medicine, used to work at a Burns Unit at a hospital in Essex and he was also involved in setting up the Children’s Burns Club.

HBO’S SUCCESSION Anything well written and well realised is my favourite thing to watch on TV. I enjoyed HBO’s Succession very much. FAMILY TIME

To be outside. Walking, exploring and playing – no matter what the weather. I see my favourite possession every day in my children’s eyes.

WELL-WRITTEN SCRIPTS Lines are much easier to learn when the script is well-written. For Dirty God I read a lot of articles about acid attack victims and I wanted to speak to a parent of one, as that’s the role I play in the film. Sacha Polak, the director, introduced me to our leading lady’s mum. I went to her family home and spent the evening there. I can’t thank the family enough for the time they spent with me.

TRAVELLING I love to travel. I’m not the sort of person who would go back to the same place again and again, unless it’s to visit a family member or close friend.

HUMAN SPIRIT I’ve learnt that no matter how big the challenge is that you face, human spirit means you can overcome it.

SARAH CHAPMAN BEAUTY

For me, the Sarah chapman skincare range is second to none. SACHA POLAK The moment I met Sacha, my instinct told me that she was an artist and I am very happy to be a colour in the palette she uses to tell her stories. The film is about the restoration of the face that a young girl shows the world.

It’s very poignant. Dirty God opens in cinemas on 7 June 2019 w&h
