Woman&Home Feel Good You

Bestselling author Clare lives in North Wales with her husband Rob and their three young children. Where are you going? I’m very lucky to travel the world talking to readers about my books, but however much I enjoy these trips, they’re still work, so I’ve been counting down the days till I go away with my family. We’re off on a big US trip, taking in San Francisco, San Diego, Boston and New York City, and I can’t wait. While my daughter plans her Californian wardrobe in minute detail and her siblings squabble over who gets the window seat, I’m busy drawing up my road trip reading list.

What will you be reading? David Nicholls’s Sweet Sorrow is top of my list, and I’m looking forward to catching up with Jackson Brodie in Big Sky by Kate Atkinson. When I’m travelling, I like to immerse myself in something local to the area, so in San Francisco I’ll be picking up a copy of Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin. Finally, I’ve been waiting for my holidays to get stuck into a non-fiction read from Caroline Criado Perez – Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men. I’ve already dipped into it and found it fascinating and horrifying in equal measure – I may well need a holiday after reading it.

✢ After the End by Clare Mackintosh is published on 25 June (Sphere).
