Novelist Adele lives in Guildford, Surrey, with her husband Jim and son Conrad. Where are you going? We’re staying at our place in the South of France, Chateau Jac, which is just 30 minutes south of Toulouse. It’s not actually a chateau, it’s a beautiful Georgian manor house that’s set in its own woodland, and it’s incredibly peaceful. But with the city only half an hour away,

I get the best of both worlds. We go every year and always invite lots of family and friends to come with us. There’s a lot to do – cycling in the mountains, wakeboarding in the lake – but honestly, I mostly lie about reading books and eating cheese.

What will you be reading? I have a huge library at Chateau Jac with classics and contemporary books. Often guests leave what they were reading and borrow something new. I have never read I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith and I know that’s on the shelf waiting for me. I hear it is beautiful – a timeless romance.
