the carthaginians, romans, moors, normans, Spanish, french and finally the italians have conquered it; their magnificent relics include temples, ancient theatres, churches, monasteries, villas and atmospheric old towns. on this tour, we visit palermo, vibrant capital of the island; medieval Siracusa, home of Archimedes; historic Agrigento and taormina, one of Sicily’s most beautiful villages.

DAY 1 ARRIVAL IN SICILY

FLY to Catania and transfer to your hotel near Agrigento for the next three nights.

DAY 2 VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES

Enjoy a guided tour of the Valley of the Temples, one of the greatest archaeological sites, and marvel at the astonishing Greek ruins. Afterwards you may wish to visit the excellent museum. We also visit Agrigento itself before returning to the hotel this afternoon.

DAY 3 PALERMO & MONREALE

Explore the north coast of Sicily, starting with Palermo, the capital, and its remarkable historic centre. This afternoon, we enjoy a guided tour of Monreale Cathedral, renowned for its superb medieval mosaics.

DAY 4 PIAZZA ARMERINA & TAORMINA

Departing Agrigento, we journey to the small town of Piazza Armerina, where we enjoy a guided tour of the Roman villa. We then continue to our hotel in either Taormina or Giardini Naxos.

DAY 5 FREE DAY IN TAORMINA

The day is at leisure to further discover or relax. Don’t miss the incredible ancient Greek theatre, nowadays a venue for classical performances.

DAY 6 SIRACUSA

Drive to Siracusa, one of the ancient Greek empire’s wealthiest cities and birthplace of Archimedes. There’s free time to explore.

DAY 7 MOUNT ETNA

This morning we journey to the snow-capped summit of Mount Etna, Europe’s highest volcano. Weather permitting, you can take the cable car to even higher levels. Return to the hotel this afternoon.

DAY 8 RETURN HOME

Transfer to the airport for your return flight.
