From sparkles to flavour-filled reds, here are some fabulous wines to enjoy on warm, sunny evenings

Reds

Taste the Difference Zweigelt, £8, 13%, Sainsbury’s

Discover Zweigelt, Austria’s most planted black grape variety. It produces a soft, smooth red with bramble fruits and cherries, and a white pepper finish. Great on its own or with lamb or pork.

Found, Nerello Cappuccio, £7, 13.5%, Marks & Spencer

The Nerello cappuccio grape is grown in the volcanic soils of

Sicily and produces a full-bodied wine of juicy redcurrant­s, with hints of herbs, violet and roses. Good with tomato-based dishes.

Co-op Irresistib­le Casablanca Valley Pinot Noir, £8, 14% This full-bodied Chilean award winner is packed with red cherries with herbaceous notes and can be served lightly chilled. It pairs well with red meats and plant-based dishes.

Whites

Taste the Difference Royal Tokaji Dry Furmint, £10, 13%, Sainsbury’s

Hungary’s furmint grape makes dessert wines, but it also produces elegant dry whites. This has peach and pear flavours, with sage.

Filos Estate Assyrtiko, £6.99, 13%, Aldi

Say hello to the Greek grape that’s making waves. This dry white, with floral aromas and lime, passion fruit and wild herb flavours, goes with white meat, meze and seafood.

Bowl Grabber Alvarinho, £9.99 bottle, 12%, Ocado Summer’s most versatile, refreshing dry white – this Portuguese wine comes in a can, bottle or bag.

Bubbles

Cava Pere Ventura Reserva, £12.99, 11.5%, Waitrose These bubbles are made by the traditiona­l method, giving this wine toasty richness and texture associated with champagne. Red apple and peach flavours are a step up from basic zestier options.

Conte Priuli Prosecco, £10, 11%, Marks & Spencer

Fun, light with lively fine bubbles to enliven any gathering. It’s full of fresh green apple flavour and lemon, and the ideal aperitif or cocktail partner. A glass would go well with fruity desserts.

Noughty Rosé, £9.95, 0.0%, Waitrose, Amazon, Ocado One of the best dealcoholi­sed sparklers you’ll taste all summer. It’s dry, bubbly, full of strawberri­es but low in sugar. It’s also only 18 calories per 100ml, organic and vegan. Top up, please.

Rosés

Kylie Minogue Cotes de Provence Rosé, £20,

‘Getaway in a bottle’ is how Kylie describes her premium rosé that oozes French sunshine. There are notes of strawberri­es, grapefruit and watermelon.

LB7 Rosé, £8.99, 12.5%, Majestic

If you prefer rosé slightly off-dry, this Portuguese wine should be your go-to, with strawberri­es come raspberrie­s, peach and a creamy texture. Serve chilled with nuts, olives and bread.

Tesco Finest Argentinia­n Malbec Rosé, £8, 13.5%

The higher alcohol in this adds oomph to fresh berries, hints of peach and lychee. Malbec has been blended with torrontes grapes for a soft wine with body. Good with barbecued seafood.
