8 ways a hallway can make an impact
Your hallway is the last thing you see as you leave in the morning and the first thing that anyone sees when they come into your home. It sets the mood and creates the first impression. Keep it clutter-free and organised and it will have a really positive impact on your day.
MAKE SEASONAL CHANGES
Only keep in-season garments on your coat rack. When the seasons change, rotate the items.
KEEP SHOES SHIPSHAPE
Invest in a dedicated unit to store footwear – a shoe cupboard or a storage bench will work, as long as it keeps the shoes off the floor. Provide the kids with a basket to throw their shoes in, you can always stash it away quickly out of sight when visitors come.
MAKE IT PERSONAL
Encourage all the family to do their bit and provide hooks, boxes or drawers to keep items in as soon as they come home, you could even personalise them with their name or photo.
BE ONE STEP AHEAD
If you have stairs, keep a storage basket on the bottom step for things that need taking upstairs. This will save you countless trips up and downstairs.
STORE THE SMALL STUFF
Keys can easily go missing if they’re just thrown to one side when you get home. Place small bowls on a console table or add a drawer unit to keep them safe.
TAKE A SEAT
Bench seating is always handy in the hallway as a place to sit while you remove your shoes, but choose a design that does double duty. Choose an ottoman style with storage inside or opt for one with shoe storage compartments built in.
OFF THE HOOK
If you’re short of floor space, utilise the walls. Look for wall-hung shelving and hooks to hang jackets, storage bags for shoes, running gear, hats and dog leads.
