ASK THE EXPERT
Hayley Forster from simplejoy. co.uk has advice for keeping your food organised.
‘Neatly arranging your food will help keep your larder tidy and reduce food waste,’ she says.
✣ Put food that is not used as often toward the back of the larder.
✣ Make sure everything is sealed and labelled after opening.
✣ Place new items behind the older ones when you unpack the groceries.
Is your linen cupboard a tangle of mismatched duvet sets and threadbare towels? With a little time and effort, you can easily restore order.
SORT OUT THE SIZES
Go through your duvet covers and sheets and divide them into sizes, then use a fabric pen to discretely label them.
GAME, SET AND MATCH
Keep sets of matching bedding together by neatly folding the duvet cover, sheet and cases and popping everything inside one pillowcase.
STACK AND STORE
Use a separate basket for each bed size, so you have the right size first time.
QUALITY NOT QUANTITY
Go through every item and check it for damage and wear. Linens that are past their best can be used for rags, sewing projects or given to an animal shelter.
DITCH TIRED TOWELS
If your towels look more grey than white, try using a whitening product. If that doesn’t work you could dye them or use for cleaning the dog after a muddy walk!
THROW IN THE TOWEL
Work out how many towels you actually need. As a guide, allow two bath towels per person, two hand towels per basin, plus a couple of extras for visitors.
KEEP IT FRESH
Place laundry fragrance sachets between the stacks of bed linen and towels to keep them washing-line fresh.
TURN DOWN THE VOLUME
Save space by placing out of season duvets and pillows in vacuum-pack or cotton bags and store away.
