Secrets to a well-ordered bedroom
Your bedroom should be a sanctuary, not bursting with clutter. Plan your storage well, and your space can be turned from a nightmare into a dream.
FIND THE PERFECT FIT
A bespoke fitted wardrobe will offer, on average, 40% more space than ordinary wardrobe designs, according to Rachal Hutcheson, of sharps.co.uk.
RING THE CHANGES
Organise your rings, bracelets and earrings in a jewellery box, and hang necklaces on hooks or pretty hangers so you can avoid tangles.
SO LONG, TIRED LINGERIE
Get rid of any odd socks, laddered tights, or pants with loose elastic. Spray some of your favourite perfume on kitchen towel to line your drawers.
SORT OUT THOSE SHOES
Do a stocktake and get rid of shoes that are unwearable. Look after the rest by storing them in clear boxes. Adding a small bag of silica gel will help keep them dry and prevent moisture damage.
CREATE SOME ORDER
Pare back your clothes then organise by colour, item or style. Create sections for workwear, casual, and occasion wear, to make life easier.
MAKE A TRUNK CALL
If you have space beneath a window or at the foot of your bed, it’s worth
considering a storage bench or ottoman. They are ideal for out-ofseason clothes or bedding.
SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF
Inner-drawer organisers or boxes are ideal for separating smaller items.
WHAT LIES BENEATH
If you’re short of storage space in your bedroom, invest in a divan bed with drawer storage, or opt for an ottoman bed that allows for instant storage via a mechanical lifting system.
