We rarely take the time to appreciate how truly amazing our bodies are. The menopause can bring many challenges, when your body starts to change and both act and react in ways that you are not accustomed to. Trying a body scan will help you to confidently accept how yours is adapting.
Taking the time to appreciate and show gratitude for the wonder of your body not only focuses your attention on things that you may take for granted, but also offers you a deeper connection and acceptance for the body that will carry you from the perimenopause through to post-menopause. In turn, this can improve self-esteem, mood and libido.
This body scan will allow you to tune in and connect properly with yours, as you focus your attention on each part in turn. If you feel discomfort or judgement about a particular part of your body during the exercise, hold one hand over your heart and the other hand over that part of your body and visualise sending loving kindness to it.
Women experiencing the menopause at an early age, or due to medical treatment, will particularly benefit from engaging in a body scan, as it can enhance self-compassion.
