EARLY MENOPAUSE
If you have gone through the menopause before the age of 45, this is classed as an ‘early’ menopause. It’s classed as ‘premature’ if it’s before the age of 40 – an estimated one in 100 women goes through this. Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a fairly rare condition that causes this, and can lead to the menopause occurring years before it should. If you’re younger than 40 and believe you could be going through the menopause, see your GP.
