Cheese straws
Irresistibly moreish – make plenty as they’ll disappear fast.
Makes 12 • Ready in 40 mins
125g mixed grated cheese (such as Cheddar, Gruyere and Parmesan)
Pinch of cayenne pepper
375g pack ready-rolled puff pastry at room temperature
1tsp Marmite, mustard or anchovy paste
1 Mix the cheeses with cayenne and season well. Unroll the pastry and brush with a little Marmite, mustard or anchovy paste. Sprinkle over most of the cheese and press down lightly. Cut the pastry widthways into 2cm strips.
2 Twist each strip, place on a baking tray and sprinkle over the remaining cheese. Chill for 10 mins.
3 Heat the oven to 200C/Gas 6. Bake the cheese straws for 10-15 mins until golden and crisp.
